How much does it cost to build a custom home in Colorado?

The cost varies significantly depending on size, complexity, and finish level. As a general guide, in 2025 a custom home along the Front Range will typically cost between $375 and $500 per square foot, not including land.

It's important to clarify what's actually included in that number. Does it include landscaping? Solar or geothermal systems? A pool? These choices, along with site-specific factors like soil conditions, foundation design, and utility infrastructure, can significantly affect both total cost and cost per square foot. We walk through all of this with you during Pre-Construction so your budget reflects your actual home, not a generic estimate.

What's the difference between a custom home and a spec home?

A spec home is built speculatively: we build it ourselves, without a specific buyer in place, and market it for sale during construction. Because the design and finish selections are already underway, there's limited ability to make changes. A custom home is designed entirely around you, from the ground up. That's also why the custom process takes longer: we're planning and designing something that's never existed before.

Do you build on my own lot?

Yes. Many of our clients already own land in Colorado Springs, Monument, or elsewhere in El Paso or Douglas County. Before we begin Pre-Construction, we'll walk the site with you to evaluate access, utilities, soil conditions, and any HOA or covenant requirements that could affect design or cost. If you don't yet own a lot, we can also help you evaluate potential sites before you buy.

What areas do you build in?

We build custom homes throughout the Colorado Front Range, with deep experience in Colorado Springs, Monument and Castle Rock, along with the surrounding communities of El Paso, Douglas, and Elbert County, including Black Forest, Franktown, Sedalia, Elbert, Elizabeth, Castle Pines, Littleton, Parker, Highlands Ranch, and Lone Tree.

We build in many of the area's most sought-after communities, including Flying Horse, Flying Horse North, Cathedral Pines, Colorado Golf Club, The Broadmoor Resort community, Winsome, Walden, Settlers Ranch, High Forest Ranch, Forest Lakes, The Timbers, The Keep, and Kissing Camels.

Do you require a minimum lot size or budget?

We build on lots as small as a quarter acre, though most of our projects sit on 2.5 to 5 acres. We have significant experience on large acreage properties between 40 and 200 acres and the challenges that come with them: access, utilities, soil variability, wildfire mitigation.

As for budget, building a true custom home for less than $2 million is very challenging. We can occasionally make it work in the high $1 millions. Most of our projects range from $2.5 million to $5 million, extending up to $10 million.

Can I use my own architect or designer?

Absolutely. We work with some of the top architects and designers in the region. If you're already working with one, we'd love to join your team as the builder partner. If not, we have access to the best in the business and will help pair you with the right architect and interior designer for your project.
